Joint statement by leading MEPs on the escalation in the relations between India and Pakistan.

The Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr David McAllister (EPP Germany), the Chair of the Delegation for relations with India, Ms Angelika Niebler (EPP, Germany), the Chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia (DSAS), Mr Șerban Dimitrie Sturdza (ECR, Romania), and the AFET Standing Rapporteur for India, Mr Vladimir Prebilič (The Greens/EFA, Slovenia), have jointly expressed their deep concern regarding the recent escalation in relations between India and Pakistan.

The Members of the European Parliament reiterated their unequivocal condemnation of the horrific terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025 and expressed their solidarity with the victims and their families. Terrorist acts are never justifiable.

In light of rising tensions, they call on both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint, to de-escalate the situation, and to desist from further attacks in order to safeguard civilian lives on both sides of the border.

The MEPs emphasised the readiness of the European Parliament to support constructive engagement and dialogue between the two countries to prevent further destabilisation and to foster conditions conducive to peace.

Furthermore, MEPs reaffirmed the European Parliament's commitment to supporting regional stability, de-escalation and rapprochement.
