International Trade Committee delegation heads to Washington amid trade tensions

Press Releases

A delegation of the Committee on International Trade will travel to Washington, D.C. from 27 to 29 May 2025 to discuss political, trade and investment relations between the US and the EU.

The delegation will be led by the Committee Chair and standing rapporteur for EU-US trade relations, Bernd Lange (S&D, DE).

INTA Members are set to hold meetings with different departments of the US administration and with lawmakers. The meetings will also include US business organisations as well as major EU businesses active in the US. Members will also meet with US trade union representatives, consumer organisations, think tanks and academia.

Members will hear from different interlocutors and stakeholders how the tariffs imposed by the US administration are being applied, how business is adapting to the tariffs and how can EU-US trade tensions be eased moving forward.

Ahead of the visit, Chair Lange stated:

“The main objective of this visit is to hear directly from the US administration and stakeholders about their recriminations and suggestions on how to fix transatlantic and world trade. We also head to Washington with a few clear messages: we should secure a mutually beneficial deal sooner rather than later to end business and consumers’ pain and uncertainty; the European Parliament will need to give its consent to a binding agreement; not any deal will do; and we have the opportunity to build a positive, shared, transatlantic agenda together. We should seize that opportunity”.
