Parliament backs Estonian candidate for the Court of Auditors

On Tuesday, Parliament endorsed the nomination of Ms Keit Pentus-Rosimannus from Estonia to join the European Court of Auditors.

447 MEPs voted in favour of Ms Pentus-Rosimannus’ candidacy, 98 against, and 87 abstained.

The Budgetary Control Committee endorsed her nomination after a hearing on 8 November.

Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, who was nominated by the Estonian government, has served as Estonian minister of Finance, Environment and Foreign Affairs. She is also a former member of the Estonian Parliament.

Next steps

The final decision on Ms Pentus-Rosimannus’ appointment will be taken by EU member states.

Background

The EU Treaty allows each member state to propose a candidate for the European Court of Auditors. Member states collectively, after consulting Parliament, appoint a nominee for a six-year term. The mandate of the previous Estonian member of the ECA Juhan Parts expires on 31 December 2022.
