Committee meetings

Eurogroup President Donohoe. Members of the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee will meet with Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe for the first time in this legislative term. MEPs are expected to focus their questions on the euro area economic situation, economic and fiscal policy coordination, the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the euro as an international and digital currency (Wednesday).

EU-Canada deal on Passenger Name Record (PNR). The Civil Liberties Committee will vote on a new EU-Canada agreement, reached in 2023, on the transfer and processing of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data. The aim is to fight against serious crime and terrorism, as PNR data can help detect suspicious travel patterns and identify criminals. A previous, similar, deal was struck down by the EU Court of Justice for data protection concerns, among other issues (Tuesday).

Priorities of the Polish Presidency. Poland’s ministers will continue to present their priorities to Parliament’s committees, this time in the committees on development, foreign affairs, economic and monetary affairs, industry energy and research, regional development, and public health. Poland holds the rotating Presidency of the Council until the end of June 2025 (Tuesday to Thursday).

European Parliamentary Week. The EP and Poland’s Sejm and Senate are organising a conference bringing together European and national MPs, to discuss stability, economic coordination and governance in the EU. The meeting will be opened by EP President Roberta Metsola, Marshal of the Polish Sejm Szymon Hołownia and Senate Marshal Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, as well as European Council President António Costa (Monday and Tuesday).

Eurobarometer Youth Survey. The European Parliament will publish a Eurobarometer survey asking citizens aged 16-30 about their EU policy priorities, use of media for for political and social issues and perceived exposure to disinformation (Monday at 10.30).

President’s diary. On Monday, EP President Metsola will receive the Ambassadors of Latin America to the EU, Marshalls of the Polish Senate and Sejm - Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska and Szymon Hołownia, respectively - before opening the European Parliamentary Week. On Tuesday, she will address the Meta pan-European Youth Summit and meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, as well as Panama's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javier Martínez-Acha.
