Sakharov Prize 2020: interviews with the laureates

The award ceremony for this year’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, conferred upon the Belarusian democratic opposition, will be held on 16 December.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday 16 December, at noon.

Journalists can express their interest in conducting an online interview with representatives of the Belarusian democratic opposition expected to be present at the ceremony, including Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, by sending an email to:

by Monday 7 December at 12.00 CET at the latest.

Please note that making a request does not guarantee you an interview. You will receive confirmation of whether you have an interview slot only on Friday 11 December, not earlier. Ms Tsikhanouskaya speaks English, Russian and Belarusian.

Interviews slots are foreseen for Tuesday 15 December and Wednesday 16 December. Journalists who wish to have interpretation must inform the EP Press Service in advance if they need such assistance.

The democratic opposition in Belarus, 2020 Sakharov Prize laureates

The democratic opposition in Belarus are this year’s Sakharov Prize laureates, following a decision by European Parliament President David Sassoli and the political groups’ leaders on 22 October. The opposition is represented by the Coordination Council, an initiative of brave women, as well as prominent political and civil society figures.
