Prime Minister of Kosovo in Foreign Affairs Committee
At a meeting on Thursday, MEPs will debate Kosovo’s future European path with Albin Kurti.
On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs will welcome Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gervalla-Schwarz, just a month after the formation of the country’s new government.
The debate will be an opportunity to restate the European Parliament’s support for Kosovo’s European integration. MEPs also plan to talk about the way forward for the EU-facilitated Belgrade-Pristina dialogue on the comprehensive normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. The dialogue’s purpose is to reach a comprehensive and legally-binding agreement that would address all outstanding issues between the respective governments.

Background
After the Vetëvendosje (VV, Self-Determination) won nearly 48% of the vote in parliamentary elections in February 2021, the party’s leader Albin Kurti was elected Kosovo’s Prime Minister on 22 March.
Kosovo is a potential candidate country. A Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Kosovo entered into force on 1 April 2016.
