Ukraine: debates on infrastructure, food security, culture and humanitarian aid

Four EP committees will take stock on Tuesday of Ukraine's transport, food security, culture and humanitarian situation and needs after Russia’s illegal invasion.

Global food market

On Tuesday at 9.00, the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee will debate the impact of the war in Ukraine on the situation of global food markets with Máximo Torero, Chief Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Members of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada will participate in the exchange of views.

Humanitarian situation

On Tuesday at 9.00, the Petitions Committee will debate Ukraine’s refugee situation with Carlo Olmo from Lawyers without Borders, and discuss an Ukrainian petition on creating humanitarian corridors and another one on providing refugees with EU-wide ID cards.

Finally, MEPs will hear from EP Coordinator on Children’s Rights Ewa Kopacz (EPP, PL) and discuss petitions on children’s rights and humanitarian aid.

Transport

On Tuesday at 10.00, the Transport and Tourism Committee will discuss with Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, joining remotely, on the latest situation on the ground, the transport sector’s needs and the EU’s role in helping to alleviate the catastrophic consequences of the invasion, as suggested in Parliament’s resolution in May. MEPs will also be joined in a debate by Members of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.

Culture

On Tuesday at 14:00, the Culture Committee will hold a hearing on how to combine available strategic resources in innovative public-philanthropic mechanisms to give emergency support to the cultural and heritage sectors in Ukraine. Members of European and Ukrainian cultural organisations, the Commission and the European External Action Service will participate in the exchange of views.
