Second Annual Conference on the Global State of Human Rights
On 15 and 16 July, Parliament will co-host the second Global State of Human Rights Conference, with a particular focus on children’s rights all over the world.
The two-day high-level event will take place at the Monastery of San Nicolò in Venice-Lido (Italy) and gather, among several participants, key MEPs and European Commissioner, Nobel Peace Prize laureates and representatives of international organisations.
Following on from last year’s first-ever conference, this year’s edition will see participants come together across three panels to discuss the latest developments related to children’s rights all over the world. The conference is jointly organised by the European Parliament and the Global Campus of Human Rights.

This year’s participants include the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola (video message), as well as the President of the Global Campus of Human Rights, Veronica Gomez, the Executive Director of the Right Livelihood Foundation Ole von Uexküll, European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen (video message), the Chairs of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, and Subcommittee on Human Rights, Maria Arena, Sakharov Prize and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Denis Mukwege, and several Members of the European Parliament.
The themes of the three main panels are “Children behind bars”, “Children affected by armed conflict and violence” and “Youth as drivers of change”.
