Farm to Fork strategy: the Parliament’s views

Immediately after the opening, MEPs will discuss with Commissioner Kyriakides their proposals to ensure that Europe can produce healthier food, guarantee food security and a fair income for farmers, and reduce agriculture’s environmental footprint. The draft resolution on which plenary will vote on Tuesday (result announced on Wednesday) also underlines the importance of offering European consumers high-quality and affordable products, while guaranteeing decent earnings for farmers.

The situation of artists and the cultural recovery in the EU

Plenary will debate measures to improve the social and economic situation of artists and cultural workers, who are amongst the worst hit by the pandemic. MEPs demand that artists should be able to move and work more easily within the EU, and that the requirements artists are subject to regarding visas, taxation and social security should be reviewed. Art degrees should be recognised in different countries, they urge. They will vote on a resolution on Tuesday, with results announced on Wednesday.

In brief:

Employment and social policies of the euro area. In a debate with Commissioner Schmit and a resolution (vote result on Wednesday), MEPs are expected to reiterate the importance of social policies in the Euro area and in the EU’s recovery and resilience plans.

Support for European news media and the audiovisual sector. The situation of the media sector after the pandemic will be the focus of a plenary debate, which will also touch upon media freedom issues and the disruptive impact of global online platforms. The discussion will be wound up with a resolution (vote results on Wednesday).

Protecting workers from asbestos. MEPs are set to call for more efforts to reduce workers’ exposure to asbestos and to ensure that asbestos is safely removed from buildings in the EU. They will then vote on a resolution, with results announced on Wednesday.
