MEPs travel to Spain to investigate unsolved murders attributed to ETA

An EP delegation will travel next week to Spain, where they will meet representatives of terrorism victims, the Government, the judiciary as well as police forces.

The eight MEPs of the Committee on Petitions will first go to Vitoria (Basque Country) on 3 November, before travelling to Madrid on 4 November. There will be a press conference in Madrid on 5 November. The fact-finding visit was prompted by a petition by the NGO Dignidad y justicia denouncing the 379 still-unsolved murders committed by the terrorist group ETA.

Agenda

On their first day, the delegation of the Committee on Petitions will visit the Memorial Centre for the Victims of Terrorism in Vitoria (Basque Country).

Then, they will move on to Madrid where they will meet the petitioner, police forces and members of the judiciary (including judges and prosecutors from the Supreme Court and the National High Court), terrorism victims and representatives from the Home Affairs Ministry and the office of the Ombudsman.

MEPs will present their conclusions in a press conference in Madrid on Friday 5 November at 10.00, in the European Parliament Liaison Office.
