Opening of the session


EP President David Sassoli will open the plenary session from the hemicycle in Strasbourg at 17.00.

Health Union: enhancing disease prevention and cross-border cooperation


Just after the opening, MEPs will debate with Commissioner Kyriakides two legislative proposals to strengthen the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and improve preparedness and the EU’s response to cross-border health threats such as the COVID-19 pandemic. On Wednesday, Plenary will adopt its negotiating mandates ahead of talks with the Council.

Rights and social protection for platform workers


The situation of those working for digital platforms will be the focus of a plenary debate with Commissioner Schmit. In a draft report, MEPs point to the poor working conditions and bogus self-employment that drivers and delivery riders face, among others, and ask for them to be given the same rights and social protection as other employees. The vote will take place on Wednesday, with results announced on Thursday.

LGBTIQ rights and anti-discrimination measures in the EU. Following a plenary debate held during the July session, MEPs will vote on a draft resolution that calls for same-sex spouses and registered partners to be recognised across all EU member states. The results will be announced on Tuesday at 9.00.

Votes


The voting session will take place between 18.30 and 19.45 (results on Tuesday at 9.00). MEPs will vote, among other topics, on:

  • a request for the defence of the immunity of Guy Verhofstadt (Renew, BE), and
  • an agreement to extend protection from 25 to 30 years of several plant varieties -asparagus, flower bulbs, woody small fruits and woody ornamentals.
