On 25 October, parliamentary speakers will gather in Zagreb to discuss how to end the Russian occupation of Crimea and how to reinforce European and global security.

The Crimea Platform is an international consultation and coordination format initiated by the Ukrainian authorities. Next week in Zagreb it will hold its first parliamentary summit. At this meeting, parliamentary speakers will have the opportunity to discuss the long-term goal of ending the Russian occupation of Crimea and strengthening European and global security. Participants will also take stock of the latest developments in the ongoing Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković are also expected to address those assembled at the opening, the former via video link.

The European Parliament will be represented by First Vice-President Othmar Karas (EPP, Austria), who said: “This Summit should not only increase global awareness about Russia’s illegal annexations, but also intensify parliamentary cooperation and support. The European Parliament will tirelessly pursue its efforts for a reunited Ukraine, where human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and rule of law are fully restored.”

At the summit in Zagreb, a range of parliamentary representatives will gather from the countries that have joined the International Crimea Platform, such as the United States House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and Gordan Jandroković, the speaker of the Croatian parliament.
