Committee and political groups meetings

Gender Equality Week. This year’s European Gender Equality Week (GEW) focuses on “Women in the Digital World: Safety and Empowerment” to highlight, and seek solutions to, the growing issue of online harassment and cyber violence. Every year Parliament holds a GEW to take stock of achievements made to advance girls' and women's rights and ensure gender equality, and to identify new measures the EU can take. Events are organised by committees, delegations, political groups, and Parliament’s administration (Monday to Thursday).

Human Rights Day. The Subcommittee on Human Rights, in association with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, will mark Human Rights Defenders Day and Human Rights Day with a high-level conference. Two panels will focus on policies and mechanisms supporting human rights defenders, and on improving the protection of those in danger, with contributions from the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, and an opening address by EP Vice-President Nicolae Ștefănuță (Monday).

Plenary Preparations. MEPs will prepare for the 16 to 19 December session, during which the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought 2025 will be awarded to María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia from Venezuela. MEPs will also outline their demands for the 19-20 December EU summit, debate misinformation and disinformation on social media platforms such as X and TikTok and its impact on European elections, as well as the EU’s priorities for the session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Parliament will also assess the need to update the European strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities, and will debate the right to clean drinking water in the EU. MEPs will vote on EU aid for member states affected by natural disasters, and elect a new EU Ombudsman.

Pre-session press briefing. The EP’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with the Parliament’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).

President’s diary. On Wednesday EP President Roberta Metsola will meet the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu and will chair the meeting of Parliament’s Conference of Presidents. On Thursday, she will meet the leader of the Belarusian democratic forces, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, before addressing a high-level conference on ‘Standing with the People of Belarus’.
