Status: Closed
The petitioner highlights that the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed a longstanding issue with respiratory protective equipment: its inability to fit all individuals properly due to variations in face shapes. He highlights that this improper fit can expose workers to high levels of toxic substances, particularly when the equipment is intended to protect against very hazardous materials. The petitioner stresses that countries like Italy, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States have regulations for the quantitative assessment of facial fit in respiratory protective equipment. Therefore, the petitioner requests that the EU enforce mandatory quantitative assessments of facial fit for respiratory protective equipment across all Member States. This regulation should ensure uniform protection for all personnel, regardless of differing national regulations. The petitioner proposes that this assessment be conducted annually, as well as after any facial surgery or significant changes in body weight. Additionally, the assessment should include brief training on the fitting and use of the equipment.
