The ninth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG) took place on 25-26 October 2021 in Brussels, Belgium and via remote participation due to the pandemic.

The seventh meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG), co-organised and co-chaired by the European Parliament and the German Parliament, took place on 28-29 September in the European Parliament in Brussels in the form of a remote meeting.

The 5th Meeting of the JPSG on Europol took place on 23 and 24 September 2019 in the European Parliament in Brussels. It was co-organised and co-chaired by the EP and the Finnish Parliament.The meeting brought together 65 Parliamentarians from 27 Member States and 12 MEPs from the EP.

On 11 May 2016, Regulation (EU) 2016/794 was adopted. The new regulation empowered Europol and enabled a joint parliamentary scrutiny by the European Parliament together with national Parliaments on it. The 3rd meeting of the JPSG on Europol takes place on 24-25 September 2018.

The Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) will hold its constituent meeting in Brussels on 9 and 10 October 2017. Its creation was agreed by the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments in Bratislava on 24 April 2017.

Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on Europol

In line with article 88 TFEU, Regulation (EU) 2016/794 on the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) provides for the establishment of a Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on Europol. The purpose of this unique form of joint scrutiny by national Parliaments and the European Parliament is to ensure that Europol is fully accountable and transparent. The main responsibilities of the scrutiny group are outlined in Article 51 of the Europol Regulation, which defines its role in politically monitoring Europol activities with particular focus on the impact of those activities on the fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons.

The JPSG holds two meetings per year: in the first half of the year, at the Parliament of the country holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, and in the second half of the year, at the European Parliament.
