From the 'Mothers of the Disappeared' in Argentina to a minority rights defender in China, the Sakharov Prize has been awarded to more than 40 individuals and organisations from more than 30 countries around the world. Since 1988, the prize has demonstrated the European Parliament's commitment to the protection of human rights around the globe and Europe's belief in their universality.
