Sakharov Prize 2020 campaigns in Portugal and Hungary

European Parliament Liaison Offices are active in all the member states of the European Union. Most of them organise local events dedicated to the Sakharov Prize and partner with local and national media on bringing attention to the causes fought by Sakharov Prize laureates.

From 16th to 23rd December 2020, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Lisbon (Portugal) put in place a print and online press campaign, to promote the Sakharov Prize and its winner in 2020: the democratic opposition in Belarus. The advert was published in the big format in daily print newspaper "Público", Revista E of weekly newspaper "Expresso" and in "Correio da Manhã", currently the newspaper with the highest circulation in Portugal. "Expresso" online announcement with an hyperlink to the EP Sakharov page collected 142.869 impressions and 779 clicks, while the ad on online newspaper "Observador" registered 219.970 impressions and 239 clicks.

European Parliament Liaison Office in Hungary organised a special edition of market-leading commercial TV, RTL's prime time news section. The Saturday evening broadcast on 12. December featured an exclusive, inspiring interview with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and MEP Petras AUŠTREVIČIUS, the rapporteur of the EP on Belarus. The award ceremony on 16 December was also covered extensively in prime evening news, featuring inserts from the special edition. The editorial was supported by a 2-weeks mini-spot campaign on the Sakharov Prize on RTL as well.The special edition can be watched, after registering, online as well on the following link
