Parliamentary questions
9 August 2007
E-3498/2007
Answer given by Mr Špidla on behalf of the Commission

As stated in the reply to Written Question E‑2530/07 from the Honourable Member, the Commission sent a letter to the Maltese authorities on 21 May 2007 asking for clarification as regards, inter alia, the exemptions of various groups of workers from the rules in Legal Notice (LN) 51/2007 and the lists of examples of objective grounds for renewals of successive fixed-term contracts laid down in the same Legal Notice in light of Directive 1999/70/EC on fixed-term work(1).

The Maltese authorities replied to the Commission in June 2007. The Commission is currently analysing the reply of the Maltese authorities and will inform the Honourable Member directly of its conclusions as soon as possible.

(1)Council Directive 1999/70/EC of 28 June 1999 concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term work concluded by ETUC, UNICE and CEEP, OJ L 175, 10.7.1999.
