Answer given by Mr Frattini on behalf of the Commission

To date the Council has authorised the Commission to negotiate, on behalf of the European Community, EC readmission agreements with 16 third countries.

The agreements with Hong Kong, Macao, Sri Lanka, Albania and Russia have entered into force.

The agreements with Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Moldova have been signed and are expected to enter into force early 2008.

The negotiations with Pakistan have been completed.

The negotiations with Morocco and Turkey are ongoing.

The negotiations with China and Algeria have not been formally launched yet.
