Answer given by Mr Navracsics on behalf of the Commission

The European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH) has and will continue to receive high visibility in Brussels. The launch of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in Belgium took place on the iconic Grande Place on 31 January 2018, in the presence of the President of the Commission and other dignitaries.[1] The EYCH is the leading theme of the EU institutions Open Day in Brussels on 5 May 2018, with 12 000 expected visitors, and of the Running for Europe on 27 May 2018.

Over 100 events are planned at European level and more than 5 000 events at national level, organised by National Coordinators in Member States, regional and local authorities, cultural heritage stakeholders and civil society.

The campaign has an active social media strategy around the hashtag #EuropeForCulture, through 2 platforms (Creative Europe and European Youth) that reach over 300 000 followers, and a bi-monthly newsletter.

On the campaign website[2], all materials‐ such as the spotlight brochure, promotional video-clips, roll-ups, posters and the EYCH logo‐ are downloadable in all EU languages. Posters and roll ups are displayed in different Commission's buildings and public spaces.[3]

The EYCH will be the theme of the European Heritage Days, with over 30 million participants every year in September in different places across Europe. The EYCH also has a strong international dimension and synergies with the EU-China Year of Tourism are established through various events and projects, such as the EU-China High Level Conference on World Heritage, organised by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

The 2018 European Year has a budget of 8 million euros; the majority of which funds transnational projects and initiatives. Approximately 17% of the total budget is devoted to a communication campaign at EU level.
