E-1274/04
WRITTEN QUESTION by Patricia McKenna (Verts/ALE) to the Commission

Question which has lapsed pursuant to Rule 185 of Parliament's Rules of Procedure.

Subject: Recognition of Irish as an official language of the EU

Irish is the national language and the first official language of Ireland, constitutionally and legally. If the Government of Ireland were to request the Commission to put before the Council of Ministers a motion to amend Council Regulation 1(1) in order to include Irish as an official language and a working language of the institutions of the European Union, would the Commission accede to that request?
