‘Social’ advertising

WRITTEN QUESTION E-4472/08
by Silvana Koch-Mehrin (ALDE)
to the Commission

German newspapers are carrying an advertisement entitled ‘Brussels likes us: EUR 9 billion proves it’. The following appears under the title: ‘Europe is socially oriented. This information is for everyone who thinks that Europe is only about paying more’.

Is the Commission aware of these advertisements and what they contain? Does the Commission think that Europe is only ‘social’ when EU citizens also receive EU money?

Does the Commission pay for such advertisements? If the cost is not met by the Commission, can the cost of such advertisements be covered by the European Social Fund for Germany?
