Measures to promote the integration of socio-emotional education into curricular and extracurricular activities so as to prevent emotional problems among children, adolescents and young people

WRITTEN QUESTION E-5315/09
by Elena Oana Antonescu (PPE)
to the Commission

Psychological research has pointed up the importance of the environment in which children grow up for their development as adolescents and adults. The adverse effects of social adjustment originate for the most part in the interaction between the children's environment (school, home, the sports field) and aspects of individual temperament.

One of the principles of the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-being is to promote the integration of socio-emotional education into curricular and extracurricular activities and in the culture of pre-school institutions and schools.

What recommendations will the Commission make for action in this field, in the light of the deadline set by the Slovenian presidency (2009) for proposals in the framework of the above Pact?
