On 28 April 2010, Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs endorsed the provisions of the proposal for a directive amending Directive 2002/15/EC[1] on the organisation of the working time of persons performing mobile road transport activities, under which drivers working on a self-employed basis will be subject to rules on working time, in the same way as drivers employed by road haulage firms.

This will, among other thing, distort competition between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and larger companies employing professional drivers and disrupt the working routine of smaller firms and of self-employed persons in cases where driving duties are combined with other activities within a business.

Does the Commission intend to withdraw the proposal to include self-employed drivers within the provisions of the aforementioned directive?
