Attacks on the Christian minority in Mosul, Iraq, have been on the increase.

In recent times the threat facing the Christian minority has grown worse. As a result of the attacks, there has been a mass exodus of Christians from Mosul and from Iraq, which suggests that the attacks may be politically motivated. Some 5 000 families have fled the city since 2003.

Five people have recently died in these attacks and since 2003 more than 200 people in Iraq have been killed because of their religious beliefs.

What measures will the Commission take in the short term to tackle the problem of attacks on the Christian minority in the run-up to the general election?

What tools does the Commission have at its disposal in the longer term to formulate Union policy on Iraq, particularly as regards aid?

In what way is the problem of the Christian minority taken into account during negotiations between the EU and Iraq on the conclusion of a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement?
