WRITTEN QUESTION by Simon Busuttil (PPE-DE) to the Commission

Subject: Compulsory Solidarity in Frontex through CRATE
 Answer(s)

One of the distinctive features of the Rapid Border Intervention Teams (RABITs) Regulation is that, for the first time, it introduces the principle of ‘compulsory solidarity’ by ‘obliging’ Member States to participate in the rapid intervention missions.

In the light of the evident failure on the part of Member States to honour their pledges to the Frontex ‘toolbox’ (CRATE), would the Commission consider a new legislative measure to raise the stakes and introduce the notion of ‘compulsory solidarity’ also in the case of CRATE?
