Status of implementation of the EU Joint Way Forward on migration between Afghanistan and the EU: returns to Afghanistan

As follow-up to a letter received on 8 November 2017 in response to its request, on 20 November 2017 the LIBE Committee received confirmation from the Commission of the implementation of the Joint Way Forward (JWF) on migration issues between Afghanistan and the EU, which had been signed by the two parties on 2 October 2016.

The Commission has reported that a total of 8 325 people were returned to Afghanistan in 2016, including voluntary departures, and that since the entry into force of the JWF, a total of 17 charter flights have taken place, with 269 returnees on board.
