European Parliament President to host high-level interparliamentary conference on migration and asylum
Tomorrow, November 19, the European Parliament President David Sassoli will host a high-level conference bringing together parliamentarians from across Europe with migration experts to explore new ideas for a sustainable EU migration and asylum system. The conference is organised by the European Parliament and the German Bundestag, in cooperation with the Portuguese and Slovene parliaments, and the European Commission.
The Conference will take place online from 10.00 - 16.30. It will begin with opening speeches from the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. These will be followed by speeches from the President of the German Bundestag, Wolfgang Schäuble, President of the Portuguese Parliament, Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, and President of the Slovenian National Assembly, Igor Zorčič, representing the Parliaments of the current and upcoming presidencies of the Council of the EU.
The President of the European Parliament will also take part in the opening panel discussion from 10.45-12.00 on ‘Managing asylum and migration together’, alongside President Ursula von der Leyen, President Wolfgang Schäuble and Director General of the International Organization for Migration António Vitorino.
The European Parliament President will also make a statement in the closing plenary session at 15.45.
