Friday 16 October: Opening of “Femmes” exhibition in the Parlamentarium

European Parliament President to open exhibition organised by NGO Samusocial

On Friday 16 October, at 11.00 in the Parlamentarium, the President of the European Parliament will open the “Femmes” exhibition organised by the NGO Samusocial. The exhibition launches on the eve of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The Femmes exhibition tells the story of 15 of the 279 homeless women who were hosted in the European Parliament during the height of the COVID pandemic in the Helmut Kohl building. The exhibition is made up of 15 images by the photographer Gaël Turine accompanied by texts by Anne-Cécile Huwar.

The European Parliament provided a place for homeless women to stay in the offices of officials who were required to work from home during the lockdown. The women were given their own rooms that they could use night and day, to give them space and security during a moment of crisis.

Following a tour of the exhibition, there will be speeches by Valentine Calisto, coordinator of the women’s centre of Samusocial and European Parliament President David Sassoli.

Broadcast images from the visit and speeches will be available here

Photos from the visit will be available on the Parliament’s multimedia centre

The exhibition will be open until February 2021 and will be accessible via Samusocial’s website
