New guidelines for EU humanitarian action

At a Glance 08-12-2021

The number of people worldwide needing humanitarian assistance is set to rise to 274 million in 2022, nearly two thirds more than in 2020. Nowadays, humanitarian crises last on average more than nine years; aid is often insufficient, and humanitarian law violated more frequently. The European Commission has proposed new ways of working with partners and other donors around the world to react faster to emergencies and deliver humanitarian aid more effectively. An own-initiative report on new guidelines for EU humanitarian action, tabled by the European Parliament's Committee on Development, is scheduled for a plenary vote in December.
