Kosovo,* with a population of 1.8 million (93 % ethnic Albanians), unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Kosovo's prospect of a European future has been affirmed at EU-Western Balkans summits dating back to 2003. The country has been engaged in EU-mediated political dialogue with Serbia since 2011. On 18 March 2023, representatives of Kosovo and Serbia met in Ohrid, North Macedonia. One of the major commitments they made there was to implement the EU proposal of 27 February 2023. The Parliament's position on the European Commission's 2022 annual report on Kosovo is due to be voted in plenary in May 2023.
