Justice programme 2028-2034

The general objective of the (re-established) justice programme for the period 2028 to 2034 will be to foster the development of an efficient, inclusive, resilient and digitalised EU area of justice, based on the rule of law, mutual recognition and mutual trust. The indicative financial envelope for the implementation of the programme under the 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework (MFF) is set at €798 million in current prices. The programme generally continues the previous edition under the 2021 2027 MFF, with a strong emphasis on the digitalisation of justice. As regards scrutiny of the programme's execution, no concrete role for the European Parliament is mentioned. Moreover, many of the differences between the proposed regulation and the current one indicate a movement towards granting the European Commission more flexibility in managing the programme, such as dropping the requirement of applying the comitology procedure in implementing the programme or dropping the reporting and evaluation requirements.
