On Tuesday 22 September, from 9.00 - 12.00, ENVI and ITRE will be holding a joint public online hearing on the critical issue of "How to secure access to COVID-19 vaccines for EU citizens."

The members of both committees will be hearing key players representing the pharmaceutical industry, academia, civil society and the European Medicines Agency addressing the multiple challenges the EU faces regarding the deployment of a future vaccine.

The debate between the members and the experts will focus on the questions of adequate clinical trials, speedy manufacturing and commercialisation as well as equitable distribution of a safe vaccine across the EU.

It has come under increased scrutiny over the past years, including by the country that was formerly the main driver of multilateralism, the United States. This EPRS policy roundtable will look at the UN's achievements and future prospects, at the EU's role in the U.N system and at how the EU can uphold multilateralism at a time when its benefits are being contested. Our panel of experts will include Barbara Pesce-Monteiro, Director of the UN/UNDP Brussels Representation Office, and Prof. Jan Wouters, Director of the Institute for International Law and of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies at KU Leuven.

The seventh meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG) will take place on 28-29 September 2020 in Brussels and via remote participation due to the pandemic. The JPSG brings together Members of national parliaments and the European Parliament to fulfil the scrutiny and oversight on the activities of Europol including on fundamental rights.

The JPSG meets at least twice a year. It is Co-Chaired by the European Parliament and the country holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The agenda includes interventions by Europol Executive Director, Ms Catherine De Bolle and keynote speeches by Federal Minister of the Interior, Building and Community of Germany, Mr Horst Seehofer and the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ms Ylva Johansson. JPSG will hear also a presentation by the European Data Protection Supervisor, Mr Wojciech Wiewiórowski. High profile discussions include topics such as the Europol activities with a special focus on Covid-19 crisis, the Fight against right-wing extremism and terrorism and the future role of the Europol and the Brexit related challenges.

Kuulamisi võivad ühiselt korraldada ka kaks või enam parlamendikomisjoni. Enamik komisjone korraldab kuulamisi korrapäraselt, kuna need võimaldavad ekspertidega konsulteerida ja pidada arutelusid tähtsatel teemadel.
