As part of the 'fit for 55' package, the Commission has proposed the creation of a social climate fund (SCF) to compensate vulnerable households, micro-businesses and transport users for some of the costs of the green transition. The fund would be financed primarily through the extension of the EU emissions trading system to cover the buildings and transport sectors. Members will debate the SCF during the June I 2022 plenary session.

The current proposal on publishing corporate tax data is part of a broader effort to tackle tax avoidance and increase tax transparency. The proposal is closely connected to the recently adopted changes to Directive 2011/16 on the automatic exchange of information among national tax authorities. The European Parliament will discuss in Plenary the European Commission 2013 report on the implementation of the European Progress Microfinance Facility for employment and social inclusion, a programme that aims to increase the availability of microcredit and which, as of 2014, has been integrated into the umbrella programme for social change and innovation (EaSI).

The current legal framework for financial statements was enacted three decades ago and has been heavily amended since. The Commission’s proposal for a new directive aims at consolidating and simplifying the law, reducing the administrative burden for small undertakings, as well as enhancing the transparency of payments made to govern­ments by the extractive industry.
