Despite the efforts of the co-legislators, agreement could not be found on a number of legislative proposals before the end of the parliamentary term, and these form a major part of the business that needs to be picked up again in the new term. In order to ensure continuity in its work, therefore, Parliament has adopted rules on how to deal with unfinished files.

European political parties and political foundations – Statute and funding

On 13 September 2017, the European Commission adopted a proposal to amend the rules on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations. The proposal aimed to revise the existing, 2014, regulation ahead of the 2019 European elections, to address specific loopholes. The limited number of proposed amendments focus on providing more transparency, improving democratic legitimacy and strengthening enforcement. On 13 September 2017, the European Commission adopted a proposal to amend the rules on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations. The proposal aimed to revise the existing, 2014, regulation ahead of the 2019 European elections, to address specific loopholes. The limited number of proposed amendments focus on providing more transparency, improving democratic legitimacy and strengthening enforcement. However, a more thorough revision will be considered at a later date. Stakeholders shared the view that the 2014 regulation needs revising in advance of the 2019 European elections. Furthermore, the proposal came as a direct response to the European Parliament resolution of 15 June 2017, which called for the revision of the current legislation. Following agreement in trilogue in March 2018, the new regulation entered into force on 4 May 2018. Second edition. Durante la tornata di luglio il Parlamento europeo dovrebbe dare la sua approvazione a un progetto di decisione del Consiglio che modifica l’atto elettorale del 1976 recante norme comuni che disciplinano le elezioni al Parlamento europeo. Tra l’altro, la nuova normativa introdurrà una soglia minima, compresa tra il 2 % e il 5 %, per le circoscrizioni che comprendono più di 35 seggi.

Durante la tornata di luglio il Parlamento europeo dovrebbe dare la sua approvazione a un progetto di decisione del Consiglio che modifica l’atto elettorale del 1976 recante norme comuni che disciplinano le elezioni al Parlamento europeo. Lotta contro l'abuso sessuale dei minori

La direttiva 2011/93/UE relativa alla lotta contro l'abuso e lo sfruttamento sessuale dei minori e la pornografia minorile, adottata nel dicembre del 2011, stabilisce norme minime relative alla definizione di siffatti reati e alle sanzioni in materia, e contiene disposizioni tese a rafforzare la prevenzione del fenomeno e la protezione delle vittime. Durante la tornata di dicembre, il Parlamento dovrà discutere una relazione sulla messa in atto della direttiva.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) introduced the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002, as part of their efforts to eradicate this unacceptable phenomenon. The day is observed each year on 12 June, and this year the focus will be on the impact of conflicts and disasters. It is also an opportunity to consider what measures have been taken at international and EU level to prevent child labour, and with what success.
