Activiteiten in het verleden
The European Commission is preparing a package of reforms to enhance police and judicial cooperation in the fight against crime across the EU and to address challenges like organised crime networks, digital crime, smuggling and drugs trafficking, as well as hybrid threats (cyberattacks, sabotage).
Three European Parliament committees, IMCO, JURI and PETI, held a public hearing on the European Citizens’ Initiative “Stop Destroying Videogames.” The hearing follows the initiative’s submission on 26 January 2026 and gave its organisers the chance to present their proposal. Members of Parliament questioned the European Commission about actions it may take in response.
On Thursday, 16 April 2026, the Policy Department for Economy and Growth will host a workshop with FISC Members to present a study on “Excises on Tobacco products in the EU. Impact on the internal market of the minimum rates of excise duty and the wide availability of alternative tobacco products currently not covered by Council Directive 2011/64/EU on the structure and rates of excise duty applied to manufactured tobacco.”
On Thursday, 16 April 2026, the Policy Department for Economy and Growth will host a workshop with FISC Members to present a study on “Feasibility of a 28th tax regime in supporting EU competitiveness.”
The Committee on Budgets (BUDG) will travel to the United Kingdom from 15 to 17 April 2026 to gather information relevant to the UK’s participation in EU programmes and instruments in selected areas such as research and innovation, youth mobility, and security and defence. The mission will provide for in-depth exchanges with UK authorities and key stakeholders on the state of play, future perspectives, and mutual benefits of enhanced EU-UK cooperation.
On Wednesday 15 April 2026 the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament will hold a Public Hearing on Trade and Investment relations with China from 15.00 to 17.00 in Brussels.
On 15 April, the CULT Committee hosted a public hearing on "Education as a driver for empowering youth, fostering inclusiveness and engagement in Europe", exploring the role of education in contributing to a more inclusive Europe where young people can thrive and are empowered.
Hoorzittingen
Volgens artikel 193 van het Reglement kan een commissie een hoorzitting met deskundigen beleggen wanneer zij deze noodzakelijk acht om een bepaalde zaak naar behoren te kunnen afhandelen. Hoorzittingen kunnen ook gezamenlijk door twee of meer commissies worden gehouden. De meeste commissies houden regelmatig hoorzittingen om deskundigen te horen en over kernzaken te kunnen discussiëren. Workshops
Workshops worden georganiseerd door de beleidsondersteunende afdelingen en de afdeling Wetenschappelijke Toekomstverkenningen (STOA) en worden beheerd in overeenstemming met het Financieel Reglement. Zij zijn niet noodzakelijk openbaar, maar kunnen tijdens een commissievergadering plaatsvinden.
