Dr Joanna Apap joined the European Parliament in March 2005, and is currently a Policy Analyst with the External Policies Unit of the Members' Research Service at the European Parliamentary Research Service, where she deals primarily with questions related to human rights, as well as the Maghreb countries. She is also the EMS coordinator for MEPs' requests on external policies. Formerly, Dr Apap worked for five and half years as an administrator in the secretariat of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), subsequent to her post in Policy Department C dealing with Citizens' Rights and Constitutional Affairs and following the work of the LIBE Committee. Prior to joining the European Parliament, Dr Apap was Head of the Justice and Home Affairs Section at the Centre for European Policy Studies. During both her academic and professional career, Dr Apap has collaborated with various research institutes, NGOs, and academia, as well as international organisations. Dr Apap has also been involved in various trans-European and international projects as both main coordinator and project partner, and has published widely in this area. Dr Apap was also a visiting lecturer in the United States. Dr Apap's main research interests include policies on fundamental rights and combating discrimination; more specifically, European citizenship rights, human rights, migration and the rights of third country nationals, social integration, and the rights of the child. Dr Apap has published five books, as well published various articles in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
