Presented as an individual's ability to turn ideas into actions, entrepreneurship has evolved over time to embrace creativity, innovation and risk taking, as well as the ability to set-up and run a business. Entrepreneurship is now considered as a key competence for all which should be promoted at all levels of education (from primary school to university) as well as through lifelong learning.

In deze studie wordt bekeken wat de omvang en aard is van het probleem van voortijdig schoolverlaten in de EU. Er wordt uitgebreid onderzocht hoe landen dit probleem aanpakken en wat de kenmerken zijn van effectief beleid. Op grond hiervan wordt voor partijen op Europees en nationaal niveau een reeks aanbevelingen voor de toekomst gedaan. De studie is gebaseerd op een diepgaand onderzoek in negen lidstaten en een analyse van internationale en nationale literatuur.

Het Bolognaproces heeft in heel Europa geleid tot fundamentele veranderingen in het hoger onderwijs.
