Komisja przedstawiła ten wniosek w listopadzie 2021 r. jako część pakietu ustawodawczego mającego umocnić demokrację i zapewnić uczciwość wyborów, a sprawozdanie przyjęła 24 stycznia 2023 r. Komisja Rynku Wewnętrznego i Ochrony Konsumentów (IMCO).

Podczas sesji plenarnej we wrześniu 2022 r. Parlament ma przeprowadzić debatę i głosowanie nad sprawozdaniem dotyczącym wniosku Komisji w sprawie przekształcenia rozporządzenia o statusie i finansowaniu europejskich partii i fundacji politycznych. Sprawozdanie zostało przyjęte przez Komisję Spraw Konstytucyjnych (AFCO) 13 lipca 2022 r. (przy 18 głosach za, 4 przeciw i 2 wstrzymujących się) i zawiera 36 poprawek do pierwotnego wniosku.

Binding EU harmonised rules on political advertising will help companies, especially the SMEs, to enter the internal market of cross-border advertising services, as well as promote transparency of political ads.
