Carbon-free steel production: Cost reduction options and usage of existing gas infrastructure

The steel sector is one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise and has recently received special attention owing to the potential use of low-carbon hydrogen (green and blue) to reduce its fuel combustion and process-related carbon emissions. This report addresses concerns that might arise while evaluating the potential and limitations of the future role of hydrogen in decarbonising the iron and steel industries. The report provides a comprehensive overview of current technical knowledge, (pilot) projects and road maps at national and EU level. This information is supplemented by previously published indicative price projections for the various steel production routes and a long-term study, analysing the evolution of the global steel sector up until 2100.

W 2018 r. w ramach nowych wieloletnich ram finansowych na lata 2021–2027 Komisja przyjęła wniosek dotyczący następnego unijnego programu w zakresie badań naukowych i innowacji „Horyzont Europa”. Program pomoże Unii w budowaniu odporności na przyszłe kryzysy, stawianiu czoła wyzwaniom, takim jak zmiana klimatu, oraz we wspieraniu cyfryzacji. Po osiągnięciu wczesnego porozumienia w drugim czytaniu w grudniu 2020 r. oczekuje się, że Parlament zagłosuje nad przyjęciem tekstu w kwietniu, kończąc tym samym ...

Na kwietniowej sesji plenarnej Parlament Europejski przeprowadzi wspólną debatę na temat badań naukowych i innowacji w UE. Debata ta będzie dotyczyć dwóch wniosków związanych z Europejskim Instytutem Innowacji i Technologii (EIT): przekształcenie rozporządzenia w sprawie EIT oraz strategiczny plan innowacji EIT na lata 2021–2027. Parlament i Rada osiągnęły porozumienie polityczne w sprawie obu tekstów, a Parlament ma teraz głosować nad ich przyjęciem.

It also discusses the obligations from the Paris Agreement, the role of Cohesion Policy within the European Green Deal and the impact of phasing out fossil fuels.
