O Comité das Regiões é composto por 350 membros que representam as autoridades regionais e locais dos 28 Estados-Membros da União. Emite pareceres nos casos de consulta obrigatória fixados pelos Tratados, nos casos de consulta facultativa e por sua própria iniciativa, quando o considere oportuno. Os seus membros não estão vinculados a quaisquer ordens ou instruções. Exercem as suas funções com independência, no interesse geral da União.

In its November 2014 Investment Plan for Europe, the Commission announced the establishment of a new European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), to bridge the EU investment gap.
