Webinar "UK/EU future relationship - Challenges for the cultural sector"

Tuesday, 29 June 2021

This event will examine the challenges faced by the cultural sector/creative industries in the post-BREXIT environment and how Parliaments and stakeholders can work together to find solutions.

The cultural sector has been one of the most vocal about the impact of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union, and the effects on creatives and industry as regards the future relationship.

For example, a House of Commons survey reveals that over 80% of musicians think that touring in Europe will not be financially viable, with 60% answering that they are considering leaving the profession.

Loss of freedom of movement is perhaps the most striking effect of BREXIT for the sector as creatives have gone from enjoying visa-free travel to having to deal with 27 different systems, making touring for artists, singers, musicians, orchestras and stage productions as well as transport of materials much more difficult.

Another major impact might be the loss of access to the EU’s arts, culture and media funding programmes such as Creative Europe. Access to other funding streams like Erasmus+ and Structural funding will also no doubt have a direct or indirect impact.

Equally important is the loss of collaborative platforms with EU Member States when it relates to cultural policy and the creative industries.
