MEPs return to Brussels on 24 June for committee meetings and political group meetings in preparation for the Strasbourg plenary from 1-4 July.



MEPs will hold a number of meetings to discuss the outcome of EU long-term budget negotiations between the Irish Presidency and European Parliament rapporteurs.  In the Committee on Budgets, the Commission will present its financing estimates for 2014 (Tuesday). The first reading of the Draft Budget in the Council is expected to take place this summer and in Parliament in October. (Wednesday)

Foreign Affairs
Ali Larayedh, Prime Minister of Tunisia, will attend a special meeting of foreign affairs and other MEPs on EU-Tunisia cooperation.(Tuesday)  The Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a debate on the situation in Iran, following the recent presidential elections. EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton will meet the Committee to debrief Members on the latest Foreign Affairs Council and recent foreign policy developments. (Thursday)

Flood relief
The Committee on Budgets will hold a preliminary vote on whether to support the use of solidarity funds for Croatia, Slovenia and Austria, following the flood damage caused in autumn 2012. (Thursday)

Plenary preparation
Political groups will prepare for the 1-4 July plenary session in Strasbourg, which will include votes on the auction of emission rights, the situation of fundamental rights in Hungary, car roadworthiness tests, banking reforms, the new European Ombudsman and cross-border health risks, as well as debates on the "Prism" surveillance programme, the closure of the Greek public broadcaster, the award of the Sakharov Prize to Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas and the incoming Lithuanian presidency's presentation of its programme.  

EU summit
President Martin Schulz will participate in the opening of the European Council, which will again focus on economic issues, including youth employment. (Thursday-Friday)

On Tuesday EP President Martin Schulz will address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. On Wednesday he will inaugurate the "Baltic Way corridor" in the European Parliament in Brussels. He will open a "Welcome Croatia" photo exhibition with Prime Minister Zoran Milanović on Thursday, ahead of the country joining the EU on 1 July.
