Europe and the United States have emerged as two key battlegrounds for state-backed disinformation efforts around the coronavirus pandemic. EU High Representative Josep Borrell has called disinformation around the coronavirus the “global battle of narratives.” U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said such campaigns are designed to “try and place confusion in the world” around the origin of the virus and governments’ response to it. Teaming up with our partners at the German Marshall Fund of the United States this event brought together European Parliament Member Sophie In't Veld Chair of European Parliament's Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monioring Group and Laura Rosenberger, Director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy at GMF. The result is a great discussion between transatlantic experts on disinformation and the challenges Europe and the United States are facing together.
