Welcome message from the Chair

Hannah Neumann taking office as newly elected Chair for the Delegation for relations with Iran on 3 October 2024

Welcome to the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the People of Iran

We are delighted to have you here and invite you to explore the important work of the EU Delegation. At a time when formal EU-Iran relations face significant challenges, our focus is on fostering dialogue with Iranian civil society and supporting efforts for lasting peace in the region.

The current context is marked by a devastating regional conflict, with violence driven by both state and non-state actors. While the Iranian regime continues to exert power through repression and force, countless Iranians are standing up for peace, sending messages of solidarity, and expressing their desire for a democratic and free Iran. These brave voices advocate for peace not only for their own country but for the entire region.

Our delegation stands firmly with those fighting for democracy and human rights--both within Iran and among the diaspora. We see this platform as more than a channel for official diplomatic engagement; we are a Delegation for Relations with the People of Iran. Our goal is to strengthen collaboration with diverse groups working for a better future for Iran--trade unions, civil society organizations, human rights lawyers, activists, and more.

Europe's own history shows us that dialogue and negotiation can lead to peace, even after the most difficult conflicts. With the guiding principle of "United in Diversity," we aim to build bridges and work towards a future of democracy, peace, and social justice. Find out more about our initiatives, political positions, and the joint work we are doing to deepen EU-Iran relations with the aim of promoting democracy, peace, and social justice.

We look forward to exchanging ideas with you and thank you for your interest.
