Geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products

On 31 March 2022, the Commission proposed a regulation on geographical indications (GIs) for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products. The proposal aims to replace three regulations that currently govern the rules on GIs, with the aim of simplifying and expediting the procedures, increasing sustainability of GI products, and improving their protection online. During the February II plenary session, Parliament is due to debate and vote on the provisional agreement on the proposal reached with the Council.
