D-US meeting of 23 January 2025

On 23 January, following the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States, the delegation held an exchange of views with Ms Majda Ruge, Senior Policy Fellow, European Council on Foreign Relations on the political, economic and policy implications for Europe under the second Trump administration, focusing in particular, on the areas of defence, support for Ukraine, trade, and relations with China. The date of the next meeting is yet to be confirmed.

On 28 January, the Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the US, Mr Brando Benifei (S&D) and Vice-Chair Ewa Maydell (EPP) met a delegation from the US Chamber of Commerce. The twenty-member delegation included representatives from major companies operating in various sectors in the US and the EU. The two sides reiterated their commitment to the EU-US relationship and discussed their main priorities and concerns in the current political context.
