The petitioner calls for the EU to take urgent action in the framework of its commitments outlined in the EU Biodiversity Strategy to ensure that the existing requirements of the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations and Habitats Directive with respect to hunting trophies are being properly implemented. She expresses her view that trophy hunting has no place in modern society and the gratuitous killing of wild animals by a small minority of hunters to obtain trophies negatively impacts wild animal populations, exacerbates other pressures on biodiversity, maintains geopolitical inequalities and fails to deliver meaningful socio-economic benefits. She alleges that the EU is the second biggest importer of hunting trophies in the world.
