Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the site of the European Parliament's Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

As elected Chair of the delegation, I preside over our delegation's regular meetings and act as a Co-Chair of the JPC with the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. JPC meetings may take place up to three times per year either at one of the European Parliament's seats (Brussels or Strasbourg) or in Turkey.

The European Parliament has always attached great importance to close cooperation between Turkey and the European Union. I strongly believe that a continuous parliamentarian dialogue is a fundamental part of this cooperation.

Turkey is not just an important partner of the EU, Turkey is also a candidate country. We have continuously supported Turkey's efforts to join the European Union and thus have repeatedly expressed our desire for progress in multiple fields of concern, including the field of democracy, rule of law and human rights. The European Parliament delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is looking forward to debating all questions of relevance to all our countries and their citizens.

During this legislature we will continue to pursue a constructive dialogue with the goal of strengthening relations between the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the European Parliament. Despite all obstacles in past years, I aim at building a fruitful parliamentary exchange with our colleagues from the Grand National Assembly, Turkish citizens and civil society.
