DROI will participate in confirmation hearings of three EU Commissioners-designate
The Subcommittee on Human Rights will participate in the confirmation hearing of three EU Commissioners-designate in the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET): Vice-President designate / High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja KALLAS (Tuesday 12 November, 09.00-12.00), Commissioner-designate for Enlargement Marta KOS (Thursday 7 November, 09.00-12.00), and Commissioner-designate for Mediterranean Dubravka ŠUICA (Tuesday 5 November, 14.30-17.30). During each confirmation hearing, the Commissioner-designate will give an opening speech and then answer questions by Members of the European Parliament.

On 17 October, the DROI Subcommittee exchanged views with the new Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), Sirpa Rautio, who became Director in March this year. She presented FRA's latest and upcoming work. Created in 2007 to collect data on the situation of fundamental rights within the EU, FRA also includes more and more candidate countries to EU membership in its surveys. Its work is made available to Parliament to ground its positions on well-established evidence.
On 17 October, the DROI Subcommittee exchanged with Antônia Pereira De Sousa, Chief of Office to the Registrar of the International Criminal Court (ICC). ICC debated with Members on challenges of the work of the Court. The EEAS and the European Commission briefed Members on EU policies on accountability and justice. Civil society explained their views and messages on the current state of the international criminal justice architecture with a focus on victims of international crimes
On 26 September, the Committees on Foreign Affairs and on Development, together with the Subcommittee on Human Rights, presented the candidates for this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, one of the most important events of the European Parliament. On 17 October, the AFET and DEVE committees will meet again to narrow down the list of nominees to a three-candidate shortlist, via a secret vote.
